An Important Bookcase By Andrew Lenehan

An important Kneehole Secretaire Bookcase made of Australian Cedar & Venneered to the front with beautifully figured Australian Rosewood by Andrew Lenehan, Circa 1855.

The upper section is comprised of an Cedar pediment above three Rosewood veneered arched glazed doors flanked on the left and right by Cedar Corbells.

The base of the Bookcase is comprised of two pedestals joined by a panelled back, all veneered with Australian Rosewood, flanked by finely carved Australian Cedar consoles. Inside each cupboard is an Australian Cedar Drawer with original inset brass handle. Both drawers impressed with Lenehan's personnal stamp A.Lenehan.

Above the cupboards sits a secretaire drawer with a fitted interior of pigeonholes and four finely grained Australian Cedar drawers with brass knobs and a tooled leather writing surface. The top of the base is crossbanded with Rosewood. The Lenehan Bookcase is a special piece of Australian Furniture of the highest quality bearing five impressed stamps A.Lenehan and is one of his finest pieces existing today.
